Date with Death

Date with Death by Eve Langlais

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I have to give this 4.5 stars because it made me smile the whole time I was reading it. The characters were really fun and interesting with some witty banter and sexy moves.

Marigold has a date with Death both literally and figuratively. Death is coming to claim her soul for Hell but he finds that she can see him, which is not right, and she figures out how she is to die and so avoids it. What she does next both confounds and surprises Death when she invites him to dinner the next night.

Mick is an Aztec god who is a good friend of Lucifer and one of many who take on the mantle of death. He is fascinated by the witch who can see him and wants to know why. But should he really go to dinner with someone he was originally sent to reap?

The couple is fun and hot. The story is interesting with a minor twist that surprised me at least since I had not thought beyond the obvious. I would definitely recommend this and the previous books in the series.

Mictain, the Aztec god of death and collector of souls for Satan himself, translocated—a new fancy term created by the office for metaphysical terminology and scientific advancement for folding space and time to get from point A to point B immediately—back to his home in Hades. His head still shook in disbelief over his encounter with the confounding human.

Three Parts Dead

Three Parts Dead (Craft Sequence #1)

Three Parts Dead (Craft Sequence #1)

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars
I enjoyed this eventually, but it started out pretty slowly. Once we get past the first 4 chapters or so things start to flow nicely and we get to really know the characters. I was drawn to the book because of the premise but then it seemed to take so long to get there that I would have given up if not for the fact that I felt it was going to get better. The characters are different and the world they inhabit bares a passing resemblance to our own in many ways, but it’s the differences that make this worth reading.

” The Craft was difficult to master, half art, half science, and an extra half bull-headed determination.”

Tara Abernathy is a young Craftswoman who was not graduated from the Hidden Schools in a traditional manner, but was ejected though she has great ability. Though she has great ability she is untested in real world applications. Kos, the God of Alt Coulumb is dead and Ms. Keverian has chosen to take Tara on as her associate for the negotiations to resurrect him. This is a make or break situation for Tara, she can show that she knows what she is doing and gain a position in a prestigious firm or she can go back to her small town and fade away. The problem is that there is more to the death of this deity than has been revealed and now they have to dig deeper in order to find out what is really going on.

What you have here is a murder mystery within a world of technology, myth, religion, and law. There are Gods, Goddesses, vampires, and any manner of creature.

Gabriel’s Hope

Gabriel's Hope by Lizzy Ford    Gabriel’s Hope (Rhyn Eternal, #1)
by Lizzy Ford

My rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

Though it did not make me immediately interested it did catch me after the first 3 chapters. The plot is interesting when you realize that what you are dealing with are immortals, and not just any immortals but those who have been a part of our mythology for generations. Death, Fate, Demons, and the Devil are all here and vying for our attention.

Gabriel has just been appointed as Death and he has no idea how to handle his elevated status. He has been a hired hand for countless years and now he is expected to take the reins and make sure that all souls are collected as they should be. When he is sent out by Fate to collect a soul he runs into someone who may change his life in unexpected ways, Deidre, she has been diagnosed with a terminal brain tumor and has only months to live. While Gabriel tries to fix the problems in the underworld he finds that his heart is being effected by a human who he does not want to lose.

This story was entertaining but could have been so much more. While I liked Deidre, she was so conflicted at times that all I wanted to do was hit her. She started as a strong woman and then became this frail little then went back to being strong. I get that she needed a range of emotions but sometimes less is more.

There is a cliff hanger ending and if nothing else that makes me want to read the next entry because now I want to know what happens next.
